Snowball Activity & Topic 1 Test

Today in Math, we did a review activity called "Snowball," and everyone seemed to completely love it!  In short, everyone had to answer the question on their paper, crumple up their piece of paper and throw it across the classroom when everyone was finished.  Once everyone had thrown their paper, they moved on to the second question and we continued this for 6 review questions.

REMINDER: TOPIC 1 TEST IS TOMORROW

ALL TOPIC 1 HOMEWORK IS DUE TOMORROW AS WELL!
NO HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER TOMORROW.

Visual Vocabulary

I've been meaning to post these Visual Vocabulary projects from my algebra class we did the first week of school. The instructions were simple: choose a vocabulary word from their new algebra textbooks and make a visual representation of that word that would help them to remember the meaning of the word.

Below are the final masterpieces!

Wednesday, August 21

I know we're still experiencing some frustrations with the Digits program!  We'll slowly but surely get them worked out!  Tomorrow in class we're going to do a "catch-up" day and students will be able to complete their 1-3 homework and anything else they may be missing up until this point, in class tomorrow.  So there is no homework tonight, unless of course you want to get a head start on the 1-3 homework, it is posted.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK: pg. 20 #9-49 odd
(Most of you got a great head start on this in class today!)

Tuesday, August 20

It sounded like we had some confusion and frustration with the Digits program last night.  My best advice is to keep trying to log on.  I sent home a purple sheet with log in instructions as well as their user names and passwords today.

HOMEWORK: 1-2 online homework

HOMEWORK: pg. 13 #9-41 odd and 45-51 odd

Monday, August 19, 2013

Today in math we started Topic 1 over Rational and Irrational Numbers.  We're slowly getting used to the new digits programs and the first homework assignment was assigned tonight.  Each night the online homework will be 15 problems and will be due by 8:00 the following morning.  Students who requested paper copies of homework due to computer or internet conflicts at home were given them in class and those will be collected at the beginning of class.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
1.1 Homework

Today in algebra, students received their textbook and we began our first lesson in them; 1-1 Variables and Expressions.  Students will have a few select problems out of the book each night and those will be checked for completion at the beginning of class each day.  After being checked, we will go over problems students struggled with and then proceed with the next lesson.

TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK:
pg. 7
#9-25 odd
#27-38 all

First Week

Last week in our math classes we went through classroom procedures and school rules and policies. On Thursday we took time in class to ensure each student could log on to their "Digits" account, which is where they can review lessons that were taught and most importantly we're they'll be submitting all of their homework assignments.

In case students forgot to write down their user names and passwords, please follow the following instructions:

USER NAME: _ _ _ _ _ _@SPS (The student's 6 digit ID number/lunch number, followed by @SPS) PASSWORD: Students first and last initials (CAPITALIZED) followed by the 4 digits of their birthday (MM/DD)
       example: AB0615
There is a link to the Digits website on my website and I've also included it below: www.mathdashboard.com/digits

On Friday, we completed our Readiness Lesson to introduce our first topic: RATIONAL & IRRATIONAL NUMBERS. Today, we will be starting our first section of the first topic and students will have homework to complete online by Tuesday.

It has been so nice getting to know all of you this week, and I'm even more confident that we are going to have a wonderful year in room 147! Parents, don't hesitate to email me or call me with questions or concerns!
